Oil Care for Face and Body: 7 Reasons to Use Oils

Oil care for the skin has become a hit in recent years, and rightfully so. When we write about oils, we also mean balms and waxes. At wereco.store/, these products are an absolutely natural part of the offer and we ourselves have been using them for several years. However, this is not a new thing. Oils have been used in body and skin care for thousands of years. Ancient cultures offered them to gods, and their properties were highly valued. Essentially, we are going back to the roots, and that's the right way. Oils are suitable for every skin type, including oily and acne-prone skin (although this may sound controversial). The important thing is to know how to choose the right type of oil.

So let's take a look at 7 main reasons why you should swap conventional cosmetic products for quality oils (balms, waxes).

1. A quality oil replaces several products at once

From a practical point of view, this is the best reason to start oil care. With a bit of exaggeration, you can say that you buy one quality oil that serves not only for moisturizing the face and body but even for skin cleansing. Always choose oils produced by gentle methods, typically cold-pressed. Only then do you have the assurance that the oil retains all beneficial components. A typical, very luxurious quality universal oil is argan oil. It is popular in skin, body, and hair care. Similarly, jojoba or almond oil will also do. Another excellent universal oil is rosehip oil, especially appreciated by mature and tired skin. You can even cleanse and remove makeup with the oil cleansing method (OCM). Warm the oil mixture in your palms and gently massage it onto the skin for several minutes. This technique dissolves impurities thanks to the oil and brings them out of the pores, so you feel bits of dirt between your fingers. After the massage, soak a towel in hot water and place it on your face. The steam and heat open the pores, and with the towel, you remove the remaining oil from the skin. Simply one bottle of oil is enough, saving space and money, and reducing waste.

2. Oils are the most suitable choice for baby skin from birth

Various creams and body lotions from conventional brands for children contain water (or a water-like substance) as the first ingredient and therefore must include preservatives. For babies from birth, the best and most natural moisturizer is a simple cold-pressed oil in organic quality. You can choose from several options: single-type oils such as olive, sunflower, almond, apricot; or the luxurious oil blend from Booming Bob. Calendula oil is often used in baby care. The brand Weleda has built an entire line of products for baby care from birth around this. Baby skin is very prone to irritation and eczema, so using conventional products is not recommended. With cold-pressed organic oils, you can be sure to reduce the risk of irritation to a minimum. A bonus? The oil you use on your baby can be safely used by you as well.

3. They have universal use from cosmetics to cooking, cleaning, and maintenance

There probably isn’t a more versatile product in cosmetics than quality oil. Ordinary olive oil can be used for massage, moisturizing after shower or bath, as an ingredient in cooking. It’s also sufficient for treating wood and wooden products, stoneware, and ceramic sinks. If you struggle with removing leftover stickers or adhesive labels, ordinary oil will do the job quickly. A bit of oil also fixes squeaky door hinges or wheels. It works great on paint stains, gently and effectively removing them from the skin. We have found oil very effective for cleaning hands from asphalt paint when no regular cleaning products worked. You can use almost any vegetable oil this way: apricot, almond, avocado, and indeed oils from any nuts and seeds. There are many possibilities. Again, you save space and money and significantly reduce waste.

4. They last much longer than a classic facial cream or lotion

When you use facial oil, you only need to apply a few drops to damp skin. One 30 ml bottle of oil will last you for months. Oils are inherently highly concentrated products. Just a little is needed and the effect appears. This is because they do not contain water, unnecessary synthetic thickeners, or additives. Quality cold-pressed oils, when stored properly (mainly in the dark and dry, some types require refrigeration), last much longer than their minimum shelf life. Most brands we sell indicate BBE (best before) dates. In reality, if stored correctly, the product can last up to twice as long, usually at least six months to a year longer. Oils should be properly stored in dryness and darkness (e.g. bottles from Booming Bob and Nobilis Tilia are therefore in dark glass). Note that some oils should also be kept cool, typically flaxseed oil or evening primrose oil.

5. Quality oils have self-preserving properties and do not contain synthetic preservatives

Chemically, oil is a fat and to some degree has self-preserving properties. It is unnecessary to add synthetic preservatives that would essentially degrade the final product. For multi-ingredient oil blends, Tocopherol = vitamin E of plant origin is used. It has antioxidant effects and helps maintain freshness of the product. Note, do not confuse it with tocopherol-acetate, which is also vitamin E but a synthetic form. Some brands use it as a preservative in “natural” cosmetics, but it does not fit the non-toxic concept and none of the products we sell contain it. If you do encounter synthetic ingredients, it means the oil contained is not of high quality or has been chemically altered, and thus loses its exceptional properties. Always look for cold-pressed oils, ideally certified organic quality.

6. They are 100% natural and non-toxic ingredients

Cold-pressed oil itself is always a natural raw material and is non-toxic. When it is certified organic quality, it is essentially ideal. Oils are mainly obtained from seeds, nuts, and fruits. Thanks to cold-pressing technology, they retain all vitamins and minerals. Oils are made purely naturally, without dyes, artificial, or preservative substances, so they are suitable even for very sensitive skin. Oils naturally help regulate sebum secretion. Therefore, it is not true that they are unsuitable for oily skin. A good choice is, for example, jojoba oil.

7. You can combine oils with each other

You can mix oils with each other based on their properties and structure. But finding a suitable combination of oils can be quite a science for a layperson, and we do not recommend much experimenting in this respect. That is why we look for manufacturers who have the necessary know-how and whose products are perfected to perfection. And we’re not just talking about basic carrier oils. Many essential oils and their combinations are added. If you want to mix a simple massage oil at home with a few drops of your favourite essential oil, it’s nothing complicated. But if you look for more complex care, it’s not so easy. Only a few brands have managed to develop truly effective oil-based products. We have these quality brands in our portfolio and will gradually introduce them to you – the customers.
